Gynaecology and obstetrics are the medical specialisations dedicated to women. Gynaecology encompasses everything related to the female genital organs, while obstetrics relates to the care of pregnant women.

Obstetric gynaecology is a particularly complex specialisation in medicine and surgery.

Gynaecology is a medical and surgical specialisation which focuses on women and in particular on benign or malignant diseases of the female reproductive organs (vulva, vagina, uterus, Fallopian tubes, ovaries and breasts). These diseases may require either medical or surgical treatment either by laparotomy (an incision through the abdomen) or by laparoscopy (minimally invasive surgery).

Amongst other things, the following pathologies (benign and malignant) may require the care of a gynaecologist associated with the Clinique de La Source:

  • Diseases of the genitourinary system (incontinence)

  • Female cancers (breast, uterus, etc.)

Obstetrics focuses on pregnant women and their future babies. Obstetrics is therefore responsible for caring for two patients and requires mastery of a certain number of complex techniques: medicine and surgery for women, as well as ultrasound and prenatal diagnostics. The gynaecologist obstetrician is supported by midwives in caring for his patients.
