Dietary management

In collaboration with our doctors, our dietitians are available for patients requiring special dietary monitoring, before, during and after their hospitalisation.

SERVICES

The nutrition specialists team at the Clinique de La Source provides the following services:

For in-patients:
  • supervising and adapting food to the needs of every in-patient (assessment of needs, set-up and monitoring of artificial nutrition...)
  • diagnosis of malnutrition
  • informing and creating awareness of the importance of nutrition adapted to different patient health needs
  • personalised education for the patient relating to their approach to their diet upon returning home

 

Post-operative diet:

Following surgery you can submit your medical orders as follows:

  • Reintroduction of food according to MO: daily monitoring of your prescription by yourself 
  • Reintroduction of food according to a schedule monitored by the nutrition specialists team following the stages proposed, as described in the corresponding schedules for the type of intervention applied, as tolerated by the patient.

 

For outpatients:

Health insurance companies reimburse consultations referred by a doctor, on medical prescription only, according to the following criteria:

  • obesity (body mass index over 30 kg/m²) 
  • overweight (body mass index over 25) associated with a secondary condition that weight loss can have a positive effect on
  • diabetes, type 1 and 2
  • metabolic disorders
  • cardiovascular diseases
  • digestive system diseases
  • kidney diseases
  • malnutrition
  • food allergies

 

The consultation process:

Analysis of nutrition habits, advice adapted to each patients’ circumstances and support with how to make changes in everyday life. If necessary, it is possible for us to measure body composition using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA).

Consultations can be one off or may form part of long-term support.

NutriSource

The NutriSource project, carried out by dieticians in collaboration with the nursing teams on all our wards, aims to optimise nutritional care from the moment patients arrive and throughout their hospital stay.

In Switzerland, undernourishment in hospital patients affects the effectiveness and tolerance of care. It causes higher rates of post-operative complications and mortality, leads to a longer stay in hospital and increases the toxicity of certain treatments. It also reduces quality of life, increases the costs of care and has a significant negative effect on patient care.

This project is part of an approach that focuses on continuous improvement in the quality of care, while also encouraging greater interdisciplinary cooperation in the overall management of patients. All our hospitalised patients are now automatically screened on arrival.

By tackling undernourishment in a comprehensive and coordinated way using the NRS assessment during hospital admission, the Dietetics Department and the Clinique de La Source are demonstrating their commitment to providing optimal nutritional care for all patients.
