Perineal rehabilitation _

Rehabilitation
_

Rehabilitation of the perineum is an important phase after the birth of your baby. On prescription from your doctor, our specialists can assist you with individual perineum rehabilitation sessions.

Perineal rehabilitation is a technique to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles weakened during childbirth. The perineal rehabilitation therefore limits the risk of developing urinary incontinence related to pregnancy and childbirth.

You will be offered different types of rehabilitation therapy depending  on your 6 week postpartumcheck-up with your gynaecologist. Your gynaecologist will prescribe 9 consultation sessions. All the sessions are delivered by our midwives who are graduates in urodynamics ; the exercises and techniques (biofeedback therapy, electric stimulation, exercises with a gym ball and motor re-education) allow a self-training of the pelvic floor.

As well as strengthening the muscles, this programme also helps you reconnect with your body and your femininity, and learn to move more effectively in everyday life through work on posture, breathing and body awareness.

Perineal rehabilitation enables you to:

  • strengthen and tone the perineal muscles after pregnancy and childbirth
  • prevent or reduce certain conditions, particularly urinary incontinence
  • gain a better understanding of and learn how to use your pelvic floor muscles
  • regain a better awareness of your body and posture
  • learn how to protect your perineum during everyday activities (lifting, standing up, coughing, exercising, etc.)
  • benefit from a holistic and personalised approach to your physical wellbeing
